Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
Autumn is near the corner!
At ACT POWER Taiwan, September 28, 2023, Taipei, Taiwan, we are celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with mooncakes, as it is the tradition to eat and pass around mooncakes to family members and friends to celebrate the harvest after a year’s labour. Families reunite on this special occasion, and the mooncakes symbolises family reunion, as the roundness of mooncakes resembles a full moon, suggesting completeness and togetherness requisite for this festive Moon Festival.
The Legend of Moon Festival
What is the story behind the moon festival? Legend has it that in ancient Chinese too long ago to specify the exact time, a talented archer god Hou Yi shot down nine suns out of the ten in an attempt to rescue people from the intolerable burning heat. This action infuriated the ten sun’s father, the greatest emperor god Tian Di. As a punishment, Hou Yi and his beautiful goddess wife, Chang E, were forbidden an immortal life and forced to live on the Earth. As time passed by, Hou Yi and Chang E dreaded the impending ageing and death. In order to live an immortal life, Hou Yi seeked help from the Queen Mother. She gave him two drops of elixir and told him and Chang E to drink a drop respectively. However, Chang E secretly desired to go back and live in heaven, so she gulped the whole elixir, and flew to the Moon. To this day, when the moon is at its fullest and brightest on the Moon Festival, she looked down and gazed at the Earth, but she could never reunite with her husband Hou Yi.
ACT POWER Taiwan wish you a very Happy Moon Festival!
